Kempi Deli is located at the 1st floor of Kempinski Hotel in Lufthansa Area. This deli is well-known in Beijing for its cake, pastries and bread. As a cake lover in Beijing, it’s quite difficult to find a cake which is delicious, not too sweet, not filled with lots of fruits and affordable.
My journey to Kempi Deli was due to my colleague’s birthday. At first, I was planning to purchase a cake from the Landmark Hotel but they didn’t have one readily available. I was contemplating going to Ritan Park area to purchase my favourite cheesecake but it’s just too far. So, I ended up walking to Kempinski Hotel from my office.
Kempi Deli has a typical cafe ambiance. It’s quiet, cool and perfect for an afternoon of books and coffee. Cake lovers would have a hard time choosing which cake they would like to sample. Choices vary from cheesecakes, mousse, fruit cakes, chocolate cakes, pie and sponge cake. If you’re into sandwiches, they make mean subs with all the ingredients that you wanted. You can also purchase sushi, salads, cold cuts and cheese.
In the end, my choice was the white chocolate mousse. It was simply divine! The way the chocolate mousse melts in your mouth makes you want for more. My Chinese colleagues who veer away from cakes to lose weight can’t resist having a slice of this wonderful cake.
Everybody was happy and can’t wait to buy one for themselves. Cakes like these need not spend on advertising as the product speak for itself. The cost? RMB 148. That’s already cheap considering it came from a 5 star hotel deli.
