Emergency Alerts Going Wild

Last Thursday, March 18, everyone was on edge as we had a severe weather threat in our area. As I mentioned in my previous post, we weren’t even sure if our vaccine appointment will push through due to the weather. After Waze brought us to an unseen Starbucks location, we decided to order dinner at Bonchon Chicken in downtown Greensboro. As we expected body ache and malaise after the vaccination, we didn’t want to cook dinner.

While my husband picked up the order, the first of the series of Emergency Alerts started on my phone. Since we were still out on the road, we were not sure where the closest substantial shelter is in our area. I was a bit paranoid and have been looking out on the window of our car. When my husband came back to the car with our dinner, he told me to be his eyes and be on the lookout of any flying debris.

We left the area and headed to the Starbucks in Wendover Ave. You might think, why do we keep on looking for a Starbucks, well it was double stars day. Moreover, it would be our treat after the vaccination. In any case, the Starbucks is on our route home. By the time we reached Wendover Avenue, the rain was starting to pour like cats and dogs. When we arrived at Starbucks, the place was closed due to the alerts. So we decided to head to the Starbucks near our home. When we hit Wendover Avenue again, the rain was blinding. You can’t see 100 meters in front of you. The alerts kept on coming especially the Tornado Warning. Well, if there was a tornado in front of us, we wouldn’t know till the cars in front of us were flying. Halfway to the Starbucks, the rain let up but the alerts were still ringing. When we arrived at Starbucks in Deep River, we were apprehensive that they were closed. Luckily, they weren’t and we were able to buy our treats.

Was there a tornado? According to the National Weather Service, there were 3 confirmed tornado touchdown in the immediate area. One in High Point, NC, one in Whitsett, NC and the other in Orange County, NC. Do I want to see a tornado? It would be cool? Honestly, if I could see it from afar, I would be ok. Among the natural disasters, a tornado and tsunami are something I’ve never experienced. I’m just glad there were no injuries and lives lost.
