Watching the Orioles at Camden Yards

It seems to be a yearly tradition between my husband and his best friend Dave to watch an Orioles game at the Camden Yards. So when we went up north for a week long vacation, they didn’t pass up to stop by Baltimore for an Orioles game at the Camden Yards.

The Oriole Park at Camden Yards is home to the Baltimore Orioles. It’s a major league ballpark located in Baltimore, Maryland. It was completed in 1992 to replace Memorial Stadium. Across the parking lot is the M&T Bank Stadium which is home to the Baltimore Ravens.

It was a warm June 4th evening. We arrived at the parking lot at 5:45pm. Game is set to start at 7:05pm. The game is between the Orioles and the Indians. Parking is prepaid and we got ours from Stubhub at Parking Lot B. A small purse and an unopened bottle of water is the only thing you can bring inside. Well, if you have a cap or baseball mitt, that’s also allowed. If your purse is bigger than what they allow, you can rent a locker for $10.

Travel: Savannah

Last on my series on Savannah. My sister said that Savannah is more food trip than sightseeing. It might be but I don’t think we’ve explored all what Savannah has to offer. On this post, I will be sharing more on places we’ve visited and food we’ve tasted. I will also be sharing places we’ve missed and other places people suggested we should visit or try.

For a good picture of oak trees and spanish moss, visit Wormsloe Historic Site. Ticket costs $10 for adults, $9 for seniors, $4.50 for youths, $2 for kids under 6. All prices are plus tax. Are the prices worth it? If you’re into photography or instagram, I would suggest paying for it as the place is really beautiful. My sister didn’t want to pay so we had to do some shadow photography when the staff ain’t looking.

For coffee, our tour guide suggested, Blends A Coffee or The Coffee Fox. No indoor sitting for The Coffee Fox. Nice ambiance and indoor sitting for Blends A Coffee. My hubby tried the lavender cold brew at Blends A Coffee. He said it’s refreshing and perfect for hot and humid weather. We weren’t able to try The Coffee Fox but they use locally roasted Perc Coffee.

Savannah’s Squares

When my sister told us that we’re visiting Savannah’s 24 squares, I thought that it would be 24 blocks and another amazing race for us. I told her if we are to do so, we would need a number card and take a photo with a number of each square we visit. However, when we went on our food tour, we visited a number of squares already.

So, what are Savannah’s Squares? They are actually small parks with a rich history. There were originally 24 squares but now were down to 22. Here are some of the squares connected to famous landmarks to guide you on your tour.

Chippewa Square (Bull and McDonough Streets) – do you remember the scene on “Forrest Gump” where he uttered the famous line “Life was like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re gonna get.” The scene was shot in this square. You won’t see the bench anymore as they were just props in the film.

Reynolds Square (Abercorn and St. Julian Streets) – this is the square near Leopold’s Ice Cream where you can seat on the benches and enjoy the yummy goodness. This is also the square where you can find the Olde Pink House, a Southern fine dining restaurant which serves good She-Crab soup.

Savannah Taste Experience Food Tour

When we arrived in Savannah, Georgia, the first thing we did was parked the car in front of the meeting place of our Savannah Taste Experience Food Tour. The tour that we joined was their Famous & Secret East Side Tour where we explored the more off-the-beaten-path.

The starting location where we met was the first location in our food tour (421 E. Broughton St). We started at Capital Bee Company, a gift shop beautifully curated on all things bee. At their tasting bar, we enjoyed the different honey they have from bee farmers around the country. We also get to taste Savannah cheese straws (an acquired taste), Dr. Pete’s Chipotle Grilling Sauce (So good!), Raspberry honey that pairs well with cheese, and bee pollen (a tour group mate tried it).

After honey, we walked to one of the numerous squares of Savannah and tasted Sly’s Sliders’ pulled pork slider. The onion strips were crunchy and yummy, the pulled pork was juicy but the sauce lacks a little bit of oomph. Since we didn’t have any lunch, this was the first savory food in our tummy but a slider was not enough.

Restaurant Review: Bowens Island Restaurant

Charleston is a place close to my heart. My husband proposed to me at Boone Plantation in Mt. Pleasant. For a foodie, you won’t be disappointed with the food offerings in the city. If you read my post in December, I posted about our trip with my sister and my brother who visited from San Francisco.

On our day trip to Charleston on April 16, I told my sister that we had to go back to Bowens Island for their tasty oysters. Since my sister also enjoyed the oysters, she agreed to add it to our itinerary. Bowens Island Restaurant is just minutes away from Folly Beach. On our trip last December, my sister put this on our itinerary as a possible option to experience the beach. When we arrived, the beach turned out to be a river. Since we lucked out on the beach, we decided to enjoy the food.

Bowens Island Restaurant was featured in several of Travel Channel’s food episodes. From Andrew Zimmern, Man v Food and Unique Eats. We learned about this restaurant from Andrew Zimmern’s Bizarre Foods America. We wanted to try it out because of the oysters. The restaurant is open Tuesday to Saturday (5:00pm to 9:30pm). The restaurant fills up fast and lines are expected.
