Last on my series on Savannah. My sister said that Savannah is more food trip than sightseeing. It might be but I don’t think we’ve explored all what Savannah has to offer. On this post, I will be sharing more on places we’ve visited and food we’ve tasted. I will also be sharing places we’ve missed and other places people suggested we should visit or try.
For a good picture of oak trees and spanish moss, visit Wormsloe Historic Site. Ticket costs $10 for adults, $9 for seniors, $4.50 for youths, $2 for kids under 6. All prices are plus tax. Are the prices worth it? If you’re into photography or instagram, I would suggest paying for it as the place is really beautiful. My sister didn’t want to pay so we had to do some shadow photography when the staff ain’t looking.
For coffee, our tour guide suggested, Blends A Coffee or The Coffee Fox. No indoor sitting for The Coffee Fox. Nice ambiance and indoor sitting for Blends A Coffee. My hubby tried the lavender cold brew at Blends A Coffee. He said it’s refreshing and perfect for hot and humid weather. We weren’t able to try The Coffee Fox but they use locally roasted Perc Coffee.
For Georgia shrimps, Tubby’s at East River street offers them steamed which you need to peel and eat. For beignets, Huey’s just below Tubby’s rivals New Orlean’s Cafe Du Monde. My hubby and sister said it taste better than Cafe Du Monde. Order them for take out and eat them at the boardwalk.
For Sunday brunch, Collins Quarter at Forsyth Park serves mimosas, lattes, and delicious brunch fares. After having a meal, you can walk off the calories and visit the famous Forsyth Park fountain. By the way, street parking is free on Sundays.
For honey, you can either visit Savannah Bee Company or Capital Bee Company. Savannah Bee Company offers mead tasting for a fee but both companies offer free honey tasting. For us, we prefer the honey offered at Capital Bee Company especially the Frosted Honey.
For other places to visit in downtown Savannah, you can do house museum tours, visit the Waving Girl statue at East Broad Street, Bonaventure Cemetery, ghost tours, or stroll along the city market. By the way, if you don’t want to fall in line at Leopold’s Ice Cream, the Little Crown by Pie Society at the City Market, offers limited flavors of Leopold’s. They also serve authentic British pies. Try some Byrd’s cookies at the City Market location.
Every year, Savannah celebrates Super Museum Sunday. We were lucky that we were able to visit it during Super Museum Sunday. The only place we visited was the Juliette Gordon Low House. It’s one Sunday a year and only from 12:00pm to 4:00pm.
With all the food places I’ve mentioned, it’s really more of a food tour than a sightseeing tour. We didn’t visit any museums except for the Juliette Gordon Low House. Maybe if we have more time, we’d like to visit Tybee Island. That’s it for Savannah. Next stop would be Philadelphia, Baltimore, Atlantic City and Staten Island. Happy travels!
